When I talk to my roommates about setting up a website, they actually tell me that it is sort of a thing of the past with blogger and web 2.0 free hosting sites. Then they pointed me to flavors.me, which compiles all your web 2.0 based information onto this single domain.

This raises the most important question for me, in retrospect of this class, "Why custom build a page if there are so many free services now?"

I think the fact that this is what most people do just makes it easier to stand out. All you really need to do is figure out the limitations of all the free stuff and make sure you go beyond it.
What looks like excess now is probably more conducive to holding up in the future, than spendthriftness. That's the way I see it.
